Event Management at the University
University of Melbourne events reflect upon the University's overall image and reputation. Events such as seminars, public lectures, laboratory openings, book launches and conferences showcase the University to its external stakeholders. Successful events, particularly those that engage with the wider community are a key element of achieving the University's knowledge transfer goals The delivery of a range of high quality events drive positive event based brand experiences for the University.
It is therefore crucial that all University events are presented professionally and consistently adhere to University policies and procedures.
University event staff are supported in a variety of ways.
Events Merchandise
Branded merchandise creates a strong first impression for an audience and therefore can add considerable value to your event. Used well, merchandise can create a strong brand presence and an environment that triggers a positive association to the quality and excellence of the University of Melbourne.
Branded merchandise can be purchased and hired from the Merchandise online store. Branded items such as clothing and giftware can be purchased online. The University also has a number of event specific items available for loan. They include marquees, banners, chairs and brochure holders.
Events Publishing System (Events Calendar)
The University's new Events Publishing System provides staff with a more comprehensive planning tool when scheduling and organising their events. It is a requirement that all University events open to the general public be entered into the Events Publishing System.
Event staff are encouraged to use the website in the early stages of their planning to help avoid clashes and enable Protocol and Security Offices to monitor events more effectively.
The website will continue to promote events to the general public via the homepage.
Events Manual
The Events Manual has been designed to assist staff who organise mainly non-student events on campus. It provides advice on the various stages in event management, from planning and budgeting to organisation and evaluation. A limited number of hard copies of the Events Manual are available and can be requested by contacting:

Courses in Event Management
Through the University's Equity and Organisational Development Unit staff can obtain training in event management.
