How to Write Copy
You may be requested to develop suitable copy for inclusion in a publication. Here are some simple steps to follow when preparing copy.
- Keep your audience in mind. Always write for the intended audience. Pitch your words at the appropriate level.
- Keep it simple. Use clear and concise language that is jargon-free.
- Break your information into chunks and use headings and sub-headings.
- Avoid slang or colloquialisms.
- Organise your information into a hierarchy.
- Develop a table of contents.
- Ask someone to read through your words for clarity and comprehension.
- Less is more. Avoid the temptation to write volumes of text.
