The Little Green Guide to Printing and Design
Eco-friendly printing and design
The University of Melbourne produces over $9 million worth of print each year. Imagine how many trees are felled, how much chemical waste enters our environment and how much water this uses.
Environmentally responsible print publishing practice results in reduced waste to land fill, reduced toxic waste and reduced toxic emissions entering water ways and air, and less demand on papers that are sourced from virgin forests. Today, good design goes hand-in-hand with responsible environmental practice.
The Media and Publication Services Office, with support from the Green Office Program in the Risk Management Office, has developed this web site based on research conducted by Anna Carlile, of Viola Eco-Graphic Design, during her Masters of the Environment.
This guide will help you to select paper, a printer, inks and creative design solutions to minimise environmental impacts, while still delivering a quality product, within budget.
